CCTV footage shows the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer get out of the police vehicle and run towards a man who was wanted on prison recall.

But as the man makes off, the officer can be seen falling to the floor before the van runs over him.

He was treated for injuries to both legs at hospital following the collision on Thursday (August 16).

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested moments later in Salford, Greater Manchester.

Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Delamore said: “Officers put themselves in difficult situations to keep our streets safe on a daily basis, and sadly on this occasion it has ended with one of our officers in hospital.

“My thoughts are with the officer, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to have him back protecting us all as soon as possible.”

A spokesperson for GMP said the officer is now recovering at home and was not seriously injured.
