The performance is part of ‘Happy Days’ festival which celebrates the work of the Irish laureate in the town he was schooled in.

An audience of 40 citizens will be escorted through the iron fortress gates by Police Service of Northern Ireland officers.

Then actor Colin Salmon will read two short prose pieces in the historic building.

The first arts event to be held in a PSNI station was in 2013 by the Happy Days festival, which uses settings to intensify the tension of a performance.

The play will be held at 9pm on Friday (August 3).

A festival spokesperson said: “When the reading is over and the audience released – from Beckett as well as the PSNI – it will be dark.”
