Scott Green named preferred candidate for West Midlands chief constable
The acting chief constable of West Midlands Police has been named as the preferred candidate to take on the role permanently.
Scott Green has been selected by West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster following a recruitment process involving police officers and staff, young people, partners and other stakeholders.
Mr Green has been acting chief constable since January, following the departure of Craig Guildford.
He joined West Midlands Police as deputy chief constable in April 2023, having previously served with South Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police.
The appointment must now be considered by the West Midlands Police and Crime Panel, which will hold a confirmation hearing on 28 September. Mr Foster said he would recommend that the panel confirm Mr Green’s appointment.
Mr Green said he would be “absolutely delighted” to continue serving the people of the West Midlands and would be “honoured to lead” the force’s officers, staff and volunteers.
The appointment follows a selection process described by the PCC as rigorous, with candidates assessed by panels including young people, police officers and staff, and representatives of partner organisations.
