Rimmer to leave Home Office for CSE role in West Midlands
The Home Office`s director general of crime and policing has announced he will be leaving to take up a role leading the fight against child sexual exploitation (CSE) in the West Midlands.
The Home Office`s director general of crime and policing has announced he will be leaving to take up a role leading the fight against child sexual exploitation (CSE) in the West Midlands.
Stephen Rimmer will become the region`s strategic leader on action against the sexual exploitation of children and other vulnerable people.
The position is a two year secondment and involve developing joint working to tackle CSE by seven local authorities, West Midlands Police, the criminal justice system and the voluntary sector.
Mr Rimmer said: “I am delighted to take up this role at a time when it is vitally important that agencies are working together to better identify those at risk of child sexual exploitation.
“I look forward to working with my new colleagues across the West Midlands and helping to transform services for vulnerable people and communities.”
Mr Rimmer first joined the Home Office in 1984, subsequently working in the prison service and Cabinet Office before returning to the Home Office. He took on a secondment as the head of strategy at the Metropolitan Police Service before returning to the Home Office in 2007.
Mr Rimmer took up the role of director general of the crime and policing group in February 2009 and also became interim chair of the Serious Organised Crime Agency in August 2013, overseeing its transformation into the National Crime Agency.

Mr Rimmer`s new post will be based at Birmingham City Council.
