Police deploy stinger to end ‘low speed’ motorway pursuit
Road traffic officers from Nottinghamshire Police and South Yorkshire Police used a ‘stinger’ to bring to an end a “slow speed pursuit” of a stolen tractor earlier this week.
The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and was pursued at speeds of up to 40mph along the A1, M18 and through areas of Doncaster before the stinger spike strip was deployed. The front tyres of the tractor were punctured and deflated, allowing officers to take the driver into custody.
Posting a picture of the vehicle, the Nottinghamshire rural police team tweeted: “Nice work by South Yorkshire Police and our colleagues at Nottinghamshire Police, who both recently engaged in a rather slow speed pursuit, bringing a potentially dangerous pursuit to a safe conclusion.”
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police operational support added: “The driver of the stolen tractor failed to stop, leading officers around the A1, M18 and Doncaster, before the tyres were deflated and the driver decided that it may be in his best interest to give up and pop along to custody and have a chat with us in the morning. The tractor will be on its way back to one very relieved owner.”
