Officer attacked while investigating report of lockdown breach

Surrey Police is urging the public to refrain from sharing footage of an attack on one of its officers last night (May 21).

The officer, who was working alone, was called to West Byfleet Park at 7.40pm after following reports that a group of young men were flouting social distancing guidelines.

The attack happened as he was attempting to engage with them.

The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries to the wrist and head.

Three people, including one adult and two juveniles, were arrested a short time later and have been taken into custody.

Footage of the incident has been circulated on social media.
