PND operating company announces three-year contract extension
IT supplier CGI will continue to manage the Police National Database (PND) for the next three years after the Home Office renewed its contract.
IT supplier CGI will continue to manage the Police National Database (PND) for the next three years after the Home Office renewed its contract.
CGI was heavily involved with the development of the PND in 2004, and signed a contract in 2009 to build and operate the system for a seven-year term.
This contract has now been extended for an additional three years.
Under the terms of the extension, CGI will disaggregate relationships with other suppliers involved in PND delivery.
This move will give the Home Office direct control over relationships with hardware and software developers that contribute to the programme.
In addition, the PND will be transitioned to the Crown Hosting Service.
Steve Thorn, CGIs senior vice president, UK Public Sector, said: Police officers have long done the best they can with the information at their disposal collaboration and the Police National Database takes the existing information and makes it more accessible, ensuring officers can bring together disparate pieces of information into a meaningful pattern.
The PND is more than an IT system, it is a weapon in the fight against crime and terrorism.
At CGI we are fully committed to helping the UK public sector to more effectively collaborate across agency and departmental boundaries.
