Pedestrian killed in fatal police car collision

An investigation has been launched after a pedestrian was killed in a collision involving a police vehicle that was responding to an emergency call.

The incident happened at around 4am on Sunday (September 9) when the police car was travelling on the A43 near Lumbertubs Way in Northampton.  

Northamptonshire Police confirmed that incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct and a full investigation is underway.  

A force spokesperson added that the identity of the victim will not be released until next-of-kin are informed.  

Roads at the scene of the collision were closed in both directions and the force says they were likely to remain so for the rest of the morning.
