Officer charged with raping woman while on duty
A former Devon and Cornwall Police officer has been charged with three counts of rape while on duty.
Sergeant David Stansbury is due to appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (April 19) charged with raping a woman aged 16 years or over.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the charges relate to alleged incidents in Plymouth in 2009, while he was on duty, and have been under investigation since being reported to the force in September 2020.
Stansbury, from Ilminster, Somerset, is currently a serving officer with Hertfordshire Constabulary and has been suspended from duty.
The 42-year-old served with Devon and Cornwall Police from 2009 to 2011.
