Skills for Justice will begin a project to develop new National Occupational Standards (NOS), and explore the demand for qualifications, for the Inspection of Public Services.

The agency will work in collaboration with other organisations in response to the Government’s proposal to bring together the five existing Inspectorates for the police, prosecution, courts, prisons and probation in England and Wales.

Robin Field-Smith, HM Inspector of Constabulary (Personnel, Training and Diversity) said: “The development of NOS for those working in the inspection field is long overdue. It will be important that all the HR processes associated with the creation and maintenance of the new single inspectorate for justice, community safety and custody are underpinned by a full set of NOS. All the existing inspectorates must support Skills for Justice in this important area of work.”

Working group meetings are provisionally planned for July 2006, September 2006 and January 2007, with consultation phases planned throughout. For more information contact Julie.benson@skillsforjustice.com.
