MPS officer charged with dangerous driving over cyclist crash

An officer from the Metropolitan Police Service has been charged following an incident in which a cyclist was left with serious injuries after being struck by a police vehicle.

Police Constable Eugene Acheampong, 27, was investigating a reported incident on Sirdar Road, North London on August 3, 2019, when his marked police vehicle collided with the cyclist who was seriously injured as a result.

The incident was investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct. Its findings were passed to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving on October 14.

PC Acheampong is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (October 28).
