Merseyside officer charged with assault

An officer from Merseyside Police will appear at court tomorrow (July 1) to face charges of assault following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Sergeant Peter Jordan, 52, was the custody officer on the evening of December 16, 2018, when a 23-year-old man was brought into the custody suite at St Anne Street police station after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

During his detainment, the man suffered injuries to his face and later complained about the level of force that had been used against him.

The case was referred to the IOPC in January 2019 and evidence submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service in December 2019.

Sgt Jordan will appear before Warrington Magistrates’ Court charged with a section 47 assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
