Investigation into training exercise that led to PC Dixon’s death

The training exercise that led to the death of a 39-year-old officer and an elderly woman will be investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). Police Constable James Dixon died on December 5 after his police motorcycle collided with a car in which 91-year-old Gladys Goodwin was a passenger. At the time, PC Dixon was involved in a training exercise with Thames Valley Police and HMRC. The IPCC will examine the planning and preparation of the training exercise, how it was carried out and how both vehicles were being driven. Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said: “My thoughts and sympathies are with the families of PC James Dixon and Gladys Goodwin following this tragic incident. “As we do following the death of any member of the public in contact with the police, the IPCC will examine the circumstances that led up to the collision and review the relevant policies and procedures.”
