Hertfordshire Police Authority (HPA) has elected its new chairman to help “sustain the good performance” of the force.

David Lloyd replaces Stuart Nagler, who stepped down form the position earlier this year. Mr Nagler will continue working with the authority as its vice-chair.

The new chairman has been a County Council member of the police authority since 2005. In chairing the authority’s policy and planning committee he has been responsible for the production and agreement of the authority’s strategic policing plan.

HPA added that with a private sector background in banking and finance, Mr Lloyd has brought his expertise to the authority’s resources committee and has been part of the team that has appointed all the constabulary’s most senior officers.

He said: “I am delighted to have been elected chairman of the police authority. Hertfordshire Constabulary performs well and the county has low rates of crime but we must ensure that these benefits are felt by all of those who live and work here.

“I will work hard to ensure that the police become even more responsive to the needs of their communities whether that is through robust tackling of anti-social behaviour or increased targeting of drivers who speed in dangerous locations. My colleagues and I will work closely with the new chief constable to sustain the good performance we currently achieve across all areas.”

As chairman, Mr Lloyd will continue in his other role as deputy leader of Hertfordshire County Council.
