The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA), a new body set up to help reform vetting practices in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, last week announced Adrian McAllister as its first chief executive.
The previous acting deputy chief constable of Lancashire Constabulary will oversee the day-to-day running of the body, which will make decisions on whether or not individuals pose a risk to children and vulnerable adults.
“The aim of the ISA is to prevent those who are deemed unsuitable to work with children and/or vulnerable adults from gaining access to them through avenues of employment, said Home Office Minister Meg Hillier.
“Mr McAllister brings years of valuable experience in law enforcement and of directing operations in complex environments to this important and challenging role,” she added.
Mr McAllister, who took up his permanent position last week, will oversee the work of up to 250 staff at the organisations Darlington headquarters and report to ISA Chair Sir Roger Singleton.
Speaking of Mr McAllister, Sir Roger said: He is an outstanding candidate for the role. I am certain that he will play a vitally important part in making our new scheme a reality and I look forward to working with him enormously.”
