Bromsgrove police shooting referred to IOPC

Armed officers from West Mercia Police have shot a man after receiving reports that he was walking around with a gun.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday (November 4) in Bromsgrove. 

A 53 year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery. 

There were no other injuries. 

West Mercia Police said: “The incident happened at around 1.44am this morning (Sunday November 4) in Birmingham Road. Armed police attended after police received a report of a man with a handgun in School Lane.” 

They said the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. 

Assistant Chief Constable Martin Evans added: “It is standard procedure that incidents of this nature are referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct and we will now work with them as they carry out their enquiries.” 

The IOPC has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the incident.
