Avon and Somerset Constabulary has appointed the head of its force CID as a new assistant chief constable.

Chief Superintendent Louisa Rolfe has spent all of her 22-year police career in Avon and Somerset, working in a variety of roles.
A former inspector who led the central Bristol Neighbourhood Team, Ch Supt Rolfe has previously worked as a detective chief inspector, leading North Somerset CID before becoming a staff officer to the chief constable.
Ch Supt Rolfe has also been a member of a number of high-profile investigations and has led Zephyr, the regional serious and organised crime team as well as local projects raising awareness of violence against women and girls. An ambassador for the sexual assault referral centre, she has previously used her investigative experience to carry out external examinations on behalf of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Following her appointment she said: I feel privileged to take up this post in Avon and Somerset and feel truly passionate about the area and its communities.
I am joining a great team and look forward to working with them and all the challenges and opportunities it will bring.
Nick Gargan, chief constable of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, said: Given the challenging period that lies ahead it was extremely important to be able to appoint a top quality officer to this role. I look forward to working with Louisa and wish her well as she begins her career as a chief officer.
