Two boys arrested over latest London stabbing
Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officers have arrested two boys on suspicion of attempted murder but an 11-year-old detained earlier has been released.
The two buys, one 15 and the other 14, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the early hours of Monday (July 2).
They were detained after officers were called to Fairbridge Road in Islington at 6.50pm on Sunday to reports of an injured male.
London’s Air Ambulance also attended and found a 14-year-old boy suffering from a number of stab wounds. He was taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
An MPS spokesperson said the boy’s family is with him at the hospital.
“A 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at addresses in the north London area this morning,” they said.
An 11-year-old boy had been initially detained over the incident but the spokesperson has now confirmed that he has been de-arrested and will face no further action.
“At this early stage police retain an open mind as to motive.”
The latest incident follows a surge in knife crime across the country and 81 murders in the capital alone this year, compared to 131 for the whole of 2017.
Detectives have appealed for witnesses.
