New ABM systems streamline efficiency for Essex

Essex Police has deployed the abmpegasus Intelligence Source Management and Telecoms Authorities modules to help streamline and speed up request and authorisation processes.

With over 3,300 police officers and more than 2,400 support staff, Essex Police serves five territorial divisions. This implementation is the latest development in the longstanding partnership between ABM and Essex Police, which originally implemented ABM PIMS back in 1998.

The Intelligence Source Management module provides a management platform in line with relevant legislative requirements and established practices, and is currently used by 80 per cent of UK police services.

The ABM Telecoms Authorities module meets the legislative provisions of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000 providing a comprehensive Communications Data Authority system for the management of communications data requests for individuals, including telecom, Internet and postal data.

“Abmpegasus Source Management has proved to be a natural progression to a web-based application from the previous ABM PIMS system,” said Detective Sergeant Peter English at Essex Police.

He added: “Before installation of the Telecoms Authorities module, we were emailing forms, which was time consuming and required all related forms to be saved into one email and archived onto CD. An electronic management system was identified as a solution. Already, we have conservative indications of efficiency improvements within the telephone enquiry unit of approximately 25 per cent.”
