Avon Protection’s new EH20 Escape Hood that gives protection against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) agents has gained the CE Mark which ensures that the product meets strict EU guidelines on health and safety.

The Escape Hood is a new concept in that it is vacuum sealed in a pouch that is small enough to wear on a belt, but can be deployed within 30 seconds. One size fits all.

Made of clear polyurethrene, the EH20 protects against airborne chemical, biological and radiological threats and protects the face from splashes of agent. The clear material has a number of advantages; it gives a less threatening appearance, aids with recognition and also allows for better visual and verbal communication.

Twin low profile filters on a hinge system feature membrane technology which reduces breathing resistance.

The EH20 Escape Hood was designed by Avon Protection in association with the Police National CBRN Centre at Winterbourne Gunner for use by First Responders.

The Police CBRN centre originally identified a need for a device to protect police officers who could be vulnerable to a CBRN attack but who wouldn’t normally have a respirator as part of their standard uniform. However, the EH20 has also been designed to protect a wide range of other emergency services personnel.

Jim Naylor, Sales and Marketing Manager at Avon Protection said: “The EH20 Escape Hood is a breakthrough for First Responders. Emergency services are vulnerable as it is not always possible to carry a traditional respirator or breathing apparatus at all times, but due to the size of the EH20, first responders now have instant protection if they are caught in a CBRN incident.

“Achieving the CE Mark gives the emergency services the additional reassurance that they are using a product which is fit for purpose.”
