Siemens to deliver ID management solution to Hampshire

Siemens Communications has been awarded a three-phase contract by Hampshire to provide a secure Identity Management (IDM) solution for its 6,500 users.

Siemens Communications has been awarded a three-phase contract by Hampshire to provide a secure Identity Management (IDM) solution for its 6,500 users.

The IDM solution will enable Hampshire to further control access to, and accuracy of, critical information via a centralised identity management system.

The first phase of the contract will provide a central repository of identities, based on Siemens’ LDAP/X.500 Directory Server DirX. This will enable Hampshire to create a unique digital identity for each officer or civilian member of staff, removing the need for multiple identities for multiple systems. This central control allows information to be updated easily and instantly across all target systems – ensuring that only users with pre-determined permissions can access sensitive data. Additionally, by centralising the management of identities and providing a common user interface, data will be recorded in a consistent format, ensuring that data quality and accuracy is maintained.

“The secure IDM solution will provide much greater control over security and who has legitimate access to data. The solution that we are working towards will contribute to Hampshire’s commitment to comply with the Unified Police Security Architecture guidelines, as well as the recommendations from the Bichard Inquiry relating to the sharing of information across police forces in the UK,” explains Matt Dobson, Head of Security Sales, Siemens Communications. “In addition the administrative benefits of the solution will deliver value for money and productivity efficiencies to Hampshire – a key consideration for any organisation, public or private.”

“Having undertaken a stringent evaluation process, we selected Siemens Communications not just on its ability to deliver the best value for money, but because of its consultative approach,” explains Steve Gover, Project Manager at Hampshire. “We had to be confident that we selected a partner that we could work with for an initial three to five year period and Siemens certainly fulfilled those criteria. We were also seeking a partner that would provide the professional support services to maximise the impact of an IDM solution and that would work with us to take account of future requirements in the development process. Again, Siemens had the proven credentials to make our choice clear.”
