An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation is underway after a man died following a police pursuit. Derbyshire Constabulary says a passenger in his 20s died after a Vauxhall Corsa car “collided with a central reservation and lamp-post”, destroying a garden wall. The driver is in hospital in a stable condition. It is thought there were only two people in the vehicle at the time. The A6 London Road in Alvaston, Derby was closed in both directions for nine hours between Wisgreaves Road and Haig Street after the incident on Monday (August 21) at 11.30pm. It has since reopened. The force said it has referred itself to the IPCC which has begun its investigation.
