MPS officer dismissed over racist and misogynistic messages
An officer from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has been dismissed without notice after sharing racist and misogynistic messages in online chats with friends.
Detective Sergeant Scott Roberts, who was attached to Central East Command Unit, appeared before an accelerated misconduct hearing which found he had breached standards of professional behaviour and committed gross misconduct.
The hearing was told DS Roberts exchanged a series of discriminatory and derogatory messages over a period of time, including racist and sexist comments.
Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke said the officer’s behaviour “fell far below the standards the public rightly expect”.
She added: “Discriminatory conduct has no place in policing, and robust action will be taken against those who undermine the integrity of the service.”
DS Roberts will now be added to the College of Policing barred list, preventing him from working in policing or certain related law enforcement roles in future.
