MPS officer who called woman 85 times over two days guilty of harassment
A serving Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer has been sentenced to a ten-day rehabilitation order, 70 hours unpaid work and a six-month restraining order after being found guilty of harassment.
Between July 23 and July 24, 2020, Police Constable Kieron Sutton, 21, attached to the South Area Borough Command Unit, called his victim 85 times and sent numerous text messages, despite being asked to stop. The messages were not abusive or threatening, however, the quantity was deemed to be excessive, said the MPS.
The officer denied the allegation of harassment but admitted to making the calls and sending the messages.
Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, borough commander for the Central South area, said: “PC Sutton’s actions were unacceptable. We are committed to bringing the perpetrators of such crimes to justice and protecting and supporting victims of harassment. Misconduct proceedings will now take place following the conclusion of criminal proceedings.”
