At a misconduct hearing on March 15, former PC Callum McIntyre – who had been based at the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) South Area Borough Command Unit (BCU) – answered allegations that his conduct amounted to amounts to a breach of Standards of Professional Behaviour, in respect of honesty and integrity, authority, respect and courtesy, discreditable conduct and duties and responsibilities.

PC MCIntyre had begun work at BCU in March 2019. During his first shift he notified his sergeant that his brother had terminal cancer. Over the course of the next three months he was granted 30 days of compassionate leave in relation to his brother’s ill-health.

Upon joining a response team he informed the inspector and everyone else of the same information and on June 4 he told his inspector that his brother had died while receiving treatment and had subsequently been buried.

However, the information about his brother was not true and PC McIntyre later admitted he had been lying.

In addition, on August 31, 2019 a member of the public called 999 and reported being threatened by someone on a moped. She told the operator that the driver of the moped may have had a sharp object and that he said if she did not apologise he would throw acid on her.

She was advised by the operator to attend a police station to report the matter. On August 31, 2019, the woman attended Croydon police station where former PC McIntyre was on duty in the front desk. He did not report the incident as a crime and did not take a statement from her.

Having considered all of the evidence – and in light of the officer’s admittance to all allegations – the misconduct panel, found the allegations proven. Had PC McIntyre still been a serving officer he would have been dismissed.

PC McIntyre resigned from the force in February 2020.
