South Wales Police has launched a new website that includes a number of features designed to publicise local and force-wide policing activities, as well as provide practical information such as a postcode search to find the nearest police station and opening times.

The site is part of the force’s commitment to improving accessibility to communities and maintaining transparency and complements the force’s five Twitter accounts which have a combined following of almost 25,000.

Chief Constable Peter Vaughan said: “As a police force we need to keep moving with the times and our new website will give people instant access to news and crime updates while at home, in work or on the move via smartphones.

“We wanted to create a site that puts the needs of the public first so we’ve made it easier to find and share information, whether that’s the opening hours of police stations, details about crime in specific areas, or news about people convicted in court.

“Another of our aims was to make this site more social, so now people can share stories and leave us comments, so we can listen to you and then reply.”

Key features of www.south-wales.police.uk include:
•News updates with the option to receive RSS feeds;
•Behind Bars – a section which publicises recent court results;
•Wanted Faces – appeals on people who are wanted for crimes; and
•An improved Freedom of Information (FoI) section which catalogues a comprehensive list of FoI disclosures.
Mr Vaughan added: “Although the site has launched, this is just the beginning. Work is going to carry on behind the scenes to continue developing the site, to increase the features available based on feedback from users.”
