Work begins on joint police and fire station in Lincolnshire

Work has begun on a joint operational police and fire station in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire – one of just a handful of joint operational stations in the country.

The need for a new police station was identified following a force review of estates; the new
building, which is due to be completed by the end of the year, will replace the existing station which was constructed in 1849 and is thought to be one of the oldest operational stations in the country.

Divisional Commander for West Division, Acting Chief Superintendent Russ Hardy, said: “The new police and fire station is perfectly sited for residents – right in the heart of the community.”
The new fire and police station will feature shared changing facilities and a meeting room. Revenue costs for heating and lighting for instance will also be shared. It will have offices for the sector inspector, local sergeant, community beat officers and CID, as well as an enquiry desk for the public. There is also a parade room for police officers, plus a watch room, communications room and workshop for fire fighters to use.
