The 49 year old man has been named as John Humble, was arrested on Tuesday in Sunderland and has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

West Yorkshire Police spent the last 18 months of the search for the Yorkshire Ripper looking for a man known as Wearside Jack after he sent them three letters and a tape recording taunting the officer in charge of the case ACC George Oldfield.

Mr Humble will appear before Leeds magistrates on Thursday afternoon.
