Lincolnshire Police is to host a prestigious national conference for the first time for those officers who work closely with universities and colleges across the country.

The Police Association of Higher Education Liaison Officers – PAHELO – is holding its annual conference at the University of Lincoln from July 11-14. Around 50 delegates are expected to attend who are involved with policing universities and colleges on either a full or part time basis.

Community Beat Manager, PC Rick Mosley, who heads the Carholme Community Policing Team and is organising the event, said: “With most force areas having a university or college on their patch, it makes sense for us all to get together on a regular basis to share best practice and ideas.

“It’s a great forum to find out about what works and what doesn’t around the country, significantly in terms of crime prevention and student safety.”

Guest speakers include the Chair of PAHELO, PC Simon Collister from Greater Manchester Police, West Midlands ACC Stuart Hyde, Honorary Patron of PAHELO, City of Lincoln MP Gillian Merron, Director of Estates, David Mullaney from the University of Lincoln and Christopher Hayward from the Metropolitan Police representing Immobilise.com, who run a national database internet site that police forces use around the country to try and find the owner of recovered stolen electrical goods.

PC Mosley added: “Working with the University of Lincoln has been a key part of my role for the past four years. It’s so important to make all students aware of simple and inexpensive crime prevention tips that really do make a difference.

“I want all students to recognise my face and know that I’m here to help make their time in Lincoln as safe and enjoyable as possible.”

Chair of PAHELO, PC Simon Collister, from Greater Manchester Police said: “We are delighted to welcome officers from other forces to share best practice and discuss how we can further improve student safety.

“There are always ways in which we can improve, but with the Association coming together to share its successes, we hope to learn from each other and build upon our achievements.”
