Humberside chief constable, Tim Hollis, will temporarily take charge of the running of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) for the summer while the association waits for president elect, Sir Hugh Orde, whose start date has been postponed.
Mr Hollis will be based in London between July 14 and August 31 to oversee the workings of ACPO following the departure of current president Sir Ken Jones for a new role in Australia.
The presidency is formally passed from Sir Ken to Sir Hugh Orde on July 7. However, due to the fact that policing Northern Ireland in summer has tradi-
tionally been challenging, Sir Hugh will return to the PSNI and remain in command there until August 31.
Mr Hollis said: There`s a good deal happening in respect of policing just now and we considered it important to have someone overseeing the business until his arrival.
Deputy Chief Constable Dave Griffin of Humberside Police will become acting chief constable during Mr Hollis absence with Assistant Chief Constable Alan Leaver covering the deputys role.
Mr Hollis was appointed one of the three vice-presidents of ACPO in April 2008, and will become the full-time vice-president this year.
