More than £10,500 has already been raised to support the family of a police constable who died on Thursday (March 16).

PC Austin Jackson, 38, passed away while on duty last week after suddenly falling ill.

The Leicestershire Police officer, who had ten years’ service and covered the Spinney Hills and St Matthews areas, leaves behind a wife and four children.

A fellow officer launched a crowdfunding page on Justgiving.com aiming to raise £1,000 to support his family, but by Tuesday (March 21) the appeal had already received £10,503 in donations.

The donation that took the total over £10,000 was PC Austin’s collar number – £22.46.

Chief Constable Simon Cole said: “Austin was always a professional and well-liked police officer who embedded himself in the St Matthew’s community.

“He will be missed by his colleagues in the force, and I send my deepest condolences to his family.”

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police Federation said: “PC 2246 Austin Jackson. Your duty is done. Thoughts are with Austin’s family, friends and colleagues at this time.”
