The suspended temporary chief constable of Cumbria Constabulary faces another allegation after a further complaint was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Stuart Hyde, who has been suspended since September 2012 after allegations of misconduct were brought to the force, said in a statement on his blog that a separate issue had been reviewed by the IPCC and was now being examined by South Wales Police, which has taken charge of the investigation, and Cumbria’s police and crime commissioner, Richard Rhodes.

Mr Rhodes said: “As a result of recent developments in the South Wales Police investigation it has been necessary to refer a new matter about Mr Hyde to the IPCC for their consideration in accordance with the Police Reform Act 2002.

“The IPCC have considered the referral and is content for South Wales Police to continue investigating the matter.”

Mr Hyde also sought an update regarding the initial allegations which led to his suspension, but despite the IPCC dismissing the concerns, stating they “do not amount to serious misconduct or are based on unsupported suspicion”, Mr Hyde remains suspended from duty.

On his blog, he said: “I have provided my full co-operation to the South Wales [Police] team and I will continue to do so.

“I remain disappointed that my suspension continues and wish to be back at work, being productive for the people of Cumbria and for policing nationally.”

Mr Rhodes said the IPCC has asked that any further significant developments be reported to them.

“It would be inappropriate for a PCC to be seen to be trying to influence any aspect of the police investigation into concerns about the standards of Stuart Hyde`s professional behaviour in his activities whilst at Cumbria Constabulary.

“The allegations against Temporary Chief Constable Hyde must be addressed in an appropriate manner and following the process set out in the legislative scheme.”
