Spinning and surfing

Football season started, while I have dusted down my scarf, I’ll be lucky to get to many games this year though. Ticket prices have gone through the roof again. Every year I promise I’ll get to more games and I end up watching them with Lineker on a Saturday night. Pretty much sums up the promises I make the boss in my annual PDR – I’ll definitely get to those more taxing challenges this year, anyway it gives them something to put down for next year.

It is time for my end of Summer hols as the kids get ready to go back to school, I have a couple of weeks to prepare my PDR for the coming year. I promise I’ll spend more time on it this year, not the quick look as I pack my bags the morning of the flight back from Crete.

If I pay too much attention, I only get to thinking what I could have done with my career had I bothered a bit more but hey ho, I don’t get written about on blogs and internet forums by everyone that doesn’t like what I do, or not that I am aware of.

But maybe there is a way to make a bit of a splash next year, PFI deals all the rage, I have an idea that I might work on while I am away that will get the private sector to help ‘free up resources for protective services’.

I definitely need a holiday, what the dickens am I thinking, coming up with new ideas, when there are 50-odd perfectly good ways out there!

The flowery shorts are packed, the ones leaning the correct way of course, together with a couple of Home Office reports to help me sleep on the plane.

I’ll be taking the son’s set of old juggling balls with me to get some practice with while I am away as well. With so many things flying my way this year, I’ll need it. Like an inswinging delivery from Shoaib Akhtar, you can never tell where they’ll be coming from next year. Not to mention, if someone in the field hasn’t been tampering with the balls.

As we all wait for more focus to come our way, once immigration and other areas are sorted, there’s enough spin being generated to turn things so we don’t have another shambles.

As if we haven’t got enough to worry about this summer without distraction, my online PDR, with standards and objectives to be verified on an ongoing basis, is enough for me to deal with.

It just isn’t cricket I say.
