The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) through its Digital Public Contact (DPC) programme has launched the National My Police Portal (NMPP) – the first nationally delivered online portal built by policing, for policing, designed to transform how the public connects with their local force.

On Tuesday (January 20), South Yorkshire Police became the first force to go live with NMPP, marking the start of a national rollout that will modernise public contact.

The portal provides a single, trusted online gateway for anyone who has reported a crime, making it easier to access case information and directly message the officer investigating it.

Building on successful proof-of-concept work by several forces and partners, the NPCC says NMPP represents a “major milestone” in creating a consistent, secure, and trusted way for the public to access updates and communicate with officers.

For the first time, policing has developed and deployed a single, national capability under NPCC governance, ensuring a standardised experience across England and Wales.

NMPP connects directly with GOV.UK One Login and Notify, meaning millions of people can use existing account details to access the service.

Chief Constable Simon Megicks, NPCC lead for Public Contact and SRO for DPC, said: “The NMPP is not just another digital tool – it represents a shift in how we offer services to the public. For the first time, we have a single, nationally delivered platform built by policing, for policing, designed to make it easier for people to get updates on their cases and contact the officer in charge. It’s about simplicity, security, and trust.

“South Yorkshire Police is leading the way as the first force to go live, and their commitment shows what’s possible when we work together nationally. This portal will reduce duplication, improve efficiency, and help to free up time for 101 and 999 call handlers. With wider adoption, it will give communities a consistent experience wherever they are.

“Our vision for the future is clear: One Standard, One Platform, One Contact. This is the start of a journey to transform public contact across policing, and we look forward to welcoming other forces as they join us.”

South Yorkshire Police head of Force Control Room, Chief Superintendent Cherie Buttle, said: “We are very excited to launch the NMPP, and I am proud that we are the first force in the country to make use of this system.

“The portal will help us to support victims of crime, ensuring that they have direct contact with the officer in charge of their case, and receive the best service we can provide.

“The portal will also help reduce demand on the force control room, where we receive more than 40,000 101 calls each month.

“As victims of crime will no longer need to call 101 to ask for updates in most cases, this will free our call handlers to deal with crime reports.”
