South Wales Police vehicle hits pensioner in Gwent

A 68-year old man was last night in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a South wales police vehicle investigating a separate incident in a neighbouring force.

A 68-year old man was last night in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a South wales police vehicle investigating a separate incident in a neighbouring force.

Gwent police are appealing for witnesses into the accident which happened near the Rose and Crown pub on Eglwysilian Lane in Abertridwr, near Caerphilly 23.45 last night.

The IPCC has been informed and a spokesperson said, “We will assess the incident and decide how it should be investigated.”

The injuries are not life-threatening but the man remains in a serious condition in the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
