South Wales ACC ‘comes home’

Scotland Yard chief Colette Paul is returning to South Wales, where she grew up, to take the position of Assistant Chief Constable at South Wales.

Scotland Yard chief Colette Paul is returning to South Wales, where she grew up, to take the position of Assistant Chief Constable at South Wales.

Ms Paul, 48, is currently the Head of Corporate Strategy and Development with the Metropolitan Police. She takes over the position from Peter Vaughan who was promoted to deputy chief constable last year.

Speaking of her appointment, Ms Paul who takes up the position in the spring, said: “I am absolutely delighted.

“I lived here when I was young and my family has links in the area. I am delighted to be coming to Wales and look forward to working with everyone to deliver a first class policing service to the people of South Wales.”

During her 23 years service with the police she has undertaken a variety of roles, including being Commander for Ealing in London and being Staff Officer to the Commissioner of the Met, Sir Ian Blair.

Interim Chairman of the Police Authority, Councillor Russell Roberts, said: “The position is very demanding and requires someone with outstanding skills. I believe we have found what we are looking for in Colette.”

Ms Paul completes the new chief officer team leading the force under the guidance of Chief Constable Barbara Wilding, another former Met officer.

Miss Wilding, CBE, said: “I am delighted with the appointment. Colette has a vast amount of operational experience and expertise and her diverse knowledge and range of skills will be of great benefit to the force and the public of South Wales.”
