A former Nottinghamshire Police officer has been jailed for creating indecent images of children after he set up a covert camera in a ladies’ toilet, a court has heard.

Scott Mayor, 45, pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent images of children and received a six-month sentence at Derby Crown Court on August 4.

Three of the images in his possession were category A – the most severe – two were category B and the remaining 49 category C.

Mayor, of Inkersall Derbyshire, will also have to sign the sex offenders register and obey a sexual harm prevention order for seven years.

The investigation came to light after Mayor was found to have uploaded images of teenage girls to social media.

Following his arrest, bail and subsequent dismissal in April 2015, Mayor disclosed to his wife that he had previously installed a camera in a toilet to film girls. This information was then passed on to the police.

Sentencing Judge Jonathan Bennett said Mayor was “remarkably frank” with The Probation Service and his partner over his issues with 13, 14, and 15-year-old girls.

“If anyone pressed the self-destruct button, you managed to, because prior to your arrest you had close family, you had a good career and as a result of this you have since endured a spell of depression and attempted to take your own life.”

Chief Inspector Paul Murphy, of Nottinghamshire Police`s Professional Standards Department, welcomed the sentence, adding that Mayor had put shame on himself and betrayed the oath of office he took when he became a police officer.

“This was a gross breach of trust and invasion of privacy in a pre-meditated manner for his own sexual gratification. I cannot overstate the gravity of his breach and betrayal of his duty to protect the most vulnerable people in our society,” he said.

“Nottinghamshire Police insists upon the highest standards of honesty and integrity from its officers. Those who fall below those standards will be held to account.”
