The Metropolitan Police Service has extended its drug testing policy to include a greater number and level of staff.
Officers at the Metropolitan Police are to be randomly drug tested as part of a crackdown on substance abuse, according to reports in the Guardian newspaper.
Police staff, community support officers and special constables will all be tested, reports the newspaper. Previously it had just been new recruits that were subject to tests.
The policy was drawn up in consultation with staff associations and the trade unions. A Met spokeswoman told the paper: The Met Police has a duty of care to its officers and staff, and the people of London, to deliver a high quality service, safely and efficiently.
