An agreement was reached by the Police Staff Council after an offer was made and was accepted by each union following a ballot of their members. The pay increase of seven per cent will apply to all pay points and will apply from September 1, 2023.

National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for workforce, Chief Constable Pam Kelly, said: “I’m delighted that the pay award for staff has been agreed at seven per cent.

“Our police staff bring their expertise and skills to work alongside us to ensure we can deliver the best possible service to our communities. It is only right that the valuable contributions of police staff get the same recognition as our officers.”

The Police Staff Council said the trade union side (Unison, Unite and GMB) undertook a consultative ballot of their members on the offer during August.

“We have been notified that all three unions have accepted the offer and therefore we can confirm a pay agreement for 2023,” said David Algie, Employers Side Secretariat.

In addition to the pay increase on all pay points, the standby allowance will increase by seven per cent from £32.23 to £34.49 as of September 1.

The final offer included a review of the lower quartile of the Police Staff Council pay spine during the 2023/24 pay year. The council said this review will take place on a “without prejudice basis” in the Police Staff Council Pay and Reward Working.
