Police officer slashed with a sword now recovering at home
An officer is recovering from his injuries after being attacked with a 3ft sword.
Greater Manchester Police officers were in Whalley Range on Sunday (March 25) when a 23-year-old man ran at them brandishing the blade.
One police sergeant suffered wounds to the shoulder and face but has since been discharged from hospital.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possessing a bladed article.
Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson said: “The officers responded with immense bravery to this report and while the sergeant is making a good recovery, this was an incredibly nasty incident which could have been so much worse.
“Footage of the incident has been circulating in the media and consequently, with so many people now having seen the actions of the officers, we have received an overwhelming number of messages of support and best wishes for the officers involved.
“I want to thank those who have sent these good wishes, it means a lot to our colleagues to have this support. We feel proud protecting and serving the communities of Greater Manchester.
