Greater Manchester Police and two of its firearms officers will appear in court to answer charges over the death of a constable who was shot dead in a training exercise in 2008.
The officers will appear at Trafford Magistrates Court on September 4 in relation to the death of Ian Terry, from Burnley, who was shot and killed on 9 June 2008.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to prosecute the force and two trainers for alleged criminal offences under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA).
There is a court order in place protecting the identity of the two police officers who will be known as Francis and Eric.
Summonses have been served on:
Greater Manchester Police for an alleged breach of Section 2 of the HSWA.
Francis, the exercising conducting officer, who was responsible for running the June 9 course for an alleged breach of Section 7 of the HSWA.
Eric, one of the Exercise Safety Officers, who assisted Francis in running the course for an alleged breach of Section 7 of the HSWA.
