Pedestrian dies after being hit by car pursued by police
A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car being pursued by police in West Yorkshire.
A statement issued by West Yorkshire Police said officers in marked vehicles had attempted to stop a Peugeot 307 at 5.18pm on Tuesday (June 9) on the outskirts of Leeds.
The vehicle failed to stop and a high-speed pursuit began. A short time later the Peugeot was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian on Leeds Road, Outwood.
The pedestrian died at the scene while the driver of the vehicle, which overturned and ended up on its roof, suffered what are believed to be minor injuries.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
