PCC Rupert Matthews moves to Reform UK
The police and crime commissioner (PCC) for Leicestershire and Rutland is leaving the Conservative Party to join Reform UK.
Rupert Matthews announced his decision on Monday (August 4).
He said: “This was a big decision and not one I took lightly.
“Importantly for local residents, my position as PCC remains unchanged, as does my commitment to the manifesto on which I was elected.
“I am determined to do everything I can to enable the police and the courts to focus on keeping our communities safe.
“My pledge to the public remains firm and solid. The fight against crime across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland continues unabated.”
Mr Matthews officially took up his role as PCC for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland on Thursday May 13, 2021 and was re-elected in May 2024.
He became MEP for the East Midlands for the Tories in July 2017, serving for two years.
