Data security specialist Becrypt is to provide its DISK Protect CPA (commercial product assurance) tablet encryption solution on Panasonic’s Toughpad FZ-G1 computer.

An ultra-light and fully-rugged Microsoft Windows 8 tablet designed for use in any weather or environment, the Toughpad FZ-G1 will now be able to handle sensitive data up to Impact Level 4 (confidential) thanks to the Becrypt technology.

Jan Kaempfer, marketing director at Panasonic Computer Product Solutions, said: “Together, Panasonic and Becrypt bring to market the compelling proposition of a highly robust tablet device with CESG (the National Technical Authority for Information Assurance) approved encryption. We expect this combination to be well received by our customers in government, military and defence.”

Becrypt DISK Protect CPA for Microsoft Windows 8, which is suitable for use by government, Ministry of Defence (MoD) and police users, features unique on-screen, pre-boot keyboard support. This enables users to login/authenticate, without the use of an external keyboard, before the main operating system is booted, avoiding the issue of authenticating after a machine may already be compromised.

DISK Protect CPA is approved by CESG to protect sensitive information without the use of government key material, significantly reducing support and cost overheads for public sector organisations and those that require a government-assured solution.

FZ-G1 customers utilising DISK Protect CPA can be deployed and protected within minutes using Becrypt Enterprise Manager, as the solution can be installed remotely without any requirement to visit the machine.

Tablets running DISK Protect CPA will also benefit from USB encryption and single sign-on options.

Dr Bernard Parsons, CEO at Becrypt, commented: “Becrypt has been working with Panasonic for many years, however, this technology partnership brings our two companies much closer together. Becrypt is committed to developing innovative solutions to protect data when accessed by new form factors.

The latest trend to use tablet computers has given us a challenge in developing a pre-boot authentication routine where there is only a touchscreen keyboard, however, it is one that we have relished. We expect to see continued adoption of tablets within security-conscious markets as they now provide the power of a laptop in a much more mobile device.”

The Toughpad FZ-G1 is Panasonic’s first fully rugged Windows 8 Pro tablet and has been designed to meet the growing demand from businesses for purpose-built tablets that use the latest functionality to improve the productivity of their workforces.
