Peter Williams died after his vehicle was involved in a collision with a marked police Volvo V70 which was on a training run to test an electronic speed measuring system.
PC Sean Schofield was found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving, but guilty of careless driving following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court in September. He was fined £500 and banned from driving for two years. He will also be removed from traffic duties for three years; have his advanced driving status removed for three years with a requirement to undertake requalification; and will receive a superintendents written warning.
PC Andrew Massingham was found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. He received similar disciplinary action but with one year less for each sanction.
