The woman who laid the groundwork for Joint Specialist Operations provision across South Yorkshire and Humberside has been appointed deputy chief constable for Nottinghamshire Police.
Rachel Barber will join the force from South Yorkshire Police next month subject to final confirmation.
Throughout her 29-year policing career, Ms Barber has helped plan the 2005 G8 summit and led the police delegation for the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil.
She has served as head of South Yorkshire Polices specialist uniform operations, saving the force £3.5 million and driving cooperation on resources with neighbouring Humberside Police.
She replaces Deputy Chief Constable Simon Torr, who will retire in May.
Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: After a testing recruitment process, I am pleased that Rachel will be joining us next month.
She brings a wealth of operational and organisational policing experience to Nottinghamshire and will be an asset to the organisation.
Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping said: I would also like to thank our outgoing deputy, Simon Torr, for his huge contribution to community safety in general and Nottinghamshire Police in particular over the past four years.
His work has led to significant improvements in the delivery of stop and search and the introduction of body worn video and he has been at the forefront of work to protect the delivery of local policing services.
