Detective Constable Quita Passmore, 37, was responding to an emergency on the evening of May 5, 2018, on Otley Road in Harrogate when it is alleged her unmarked police car collided with another vehicle.

Two women in the vehicle were seriously injured. Det Con Passmore was also injured.

An investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct was completed in October 2019 and the evidence referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, which made the decision to charge Det Con Passmore with one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on December 18.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said the force had co-operated with the IOPC and was aware of the finding of the investigation. “As court proceedings are active it is not currently appropriate to comment further as this could prejudice the outcome of the proceedings,” the spokesperson said.
