LAPD chief to resign
The chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), William Bratton, is to step down from his role, according to US media reports.
Mr Bratton was appointed chief of the LAPD in 2002, after holding the position of chief in New York. Since then, crime in the area has dramatically reduced and he has implemented major reforms, using data analysis and computer mapping techniques.
Crime rates have declined in each year that Mr Bratton has been in charge.
Force gives dogs pension
Cambridgeshire Police is giving former police dogs pensions and health plans on their retirement.
The scheme, thought to be the first in England, sees the force take responsibility for the costs of retired dogs, including food and vet bills.
So far, eight police dogs have benefited from the scheme.
Officers face drugs charges
Two Thames Valley Police officers have been charged with Class A drugs offences.
PC Matthew Kille, 30, and PCSO Lisa Slavin, 20, were arrested on May 21, and charged with wilful misconduct in public office, possession of cocaine and possession with intent to supply cocaine.
The officers are due to appear at Swindon MagistratesÂ’ Court on August 20.
Officer dies from drug overdose
A police officer has been found dead at his home following a heroin overdose.
PC David Pilling, 47, was discovered by colleagues, collapsed in his London flat.
Traces of heroin were found beside him and toxicology tests revealed the officer died from an overdose of heroin.
