A computer software package designed to make the analysis of bloodstains and splatter more efficient is set to hit the forensic market.

HemoSpat, a US company, provides the bloodstain pattern analyst with a method of computing the ‘strings’ of a bloodstain pattern from a crime scene.

The data can then be used for directional analysis to determine the origin of the bloodshed or for input into crime scene reconstruction software.

Scientists often rely on physical stringing, mathematical methods or digital photos taken from a crime scene which HemoSpat claim leaves room for input errors.

HemoSpat will be available for MAC OS X, Windows 2000, and Windows XP in 2006.
