Nottinghamshire Police Authority has secured new leadership with Councillor Jon Collins being elected chair and councillors Mike Quigley and Glynn Gilfoyle as vice-chairs.

The appointments were announced at the authority’s AGM last week and follow criticism of the authority by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) in a capability review. The authority decided to return to having two vice-chair posts, as opposed to one, in March in response to the increased workload on the position.

Incoming chair, Cllr Collins, said:  “Firstly, I would like to pay tribute to the outgoing chair John Clarke for his contribution to policing and his tremendous public service over the last ten years.
“Moving forward, I’m grateful to have the support of my police authority colleagues and I will work hard to do all I can to make sure that trust is justified. Most importantly, we have a clear job to do, working as a critical friend to the force; helping, supporting and challenging them as they continue to drive down crime across Nottinghamshire, doing everything we can to support the level and rate of reduction.

“This year there are a lot fewer victims of crime in Nottinghamshire, but there is still too much crime. It is the job of everyone on the police authority and in the force to put that right.”

Chief Constable Julia Hodson said: “I am looking forward to working closely with the new chair and vice-chairs to meet the challenges that both the force and the police authority face over the coming months.

“The police authority will play a vital role in working with the force to make the city and county even safer places, and I know Jon Collins, Mike Quigley and Glynn Gilfoyle all have the same determination to continue the improvements in our performance as I do.”
